This is a former colliery tramroad serving early pits in the neighbourhood of Prince's Wood and connecting to a coal yard at the junction of the current Towers Road with the main (turnpike) road to Stockport. It would almost certainly have ceased operation when the Prince's Incline was built giving access to the 'new' railway to Stockport and Manchester.
