This view - from Fitzherbert Close - identifies the point at which Tree Lane arrives at this junction (from the left) and then, having curved round the front of this hotel, continues as Church Way. The combined Tree Hotel and Annora Restaurant overlook the crossroads. Annora of Iffley (a.k.a Eleanor de Braose) was an anchoress - a spiritual contemplative or religious woman - who lived her solitary life of prayer in a 'cell' beside Iffley church c.1232-42. She was the twelfth child of William de Braose who had fallen foul of King John and she became an anchoress after being widowed.
