Hownam, par. and vil., E. Roxburghshire, on the Border - par., 15,075 ac., pop. 263; vil., on Kale Water, 11 miles SE. of Kelso; P.O.; the Roman Watling Street runs along the W. boundary of the par., and on Hownam Law (1472 ft.), 2 miles NE. of the vil., is a large Roman camp.
