Gilling Wood, North Yorkshire

Stacked logs at the road-end of Jagger Lane

Uploader's Comments

This bridleway is known as Jagger Lane all the way from the Marske to Richmond road at its south end to Hartforth to the northeast. These log piles were just inside Gilling Wood after the bridleway crosses the Ravensworth to Richmond road, heading northeast. Although mainly conifers at this point, the forest is mixed woodland (despite being shown as coniferous on the OS map), and the second log pile on the right is entirely composed of hardwoods. Oak, Ash, Beech are present in addition to Spruce and Larch, and the forest is quite open and well-lit compared to many commercial plantations.
