Plate of uprooted tree, Lower Ashland Hill Plantation

Uploader's Comments

Moss and other plants thrive on this upturned root plate, making it resemble a bear offering a houseplant as a gift - or perhaps not. Progress along footpath 40UD046 Y 10/31 is awkward, but another fallen tree has turned me away from an easier parallel track, and I'm now between the two. In addition, it's windy, and there are many trees precariously leaning against their neighbours, so I am slightly concerned about imminent severe concussion. Ironically, the entrance to the wood has a warning sign about tree felling - I hadn't realised that the felling agents were natural rather than human, as there's no sign of the latter taking place.
