Crichton.-- par. and vil., E. border of Edinburghshire, 2 miles NE. of Fushiebridge ry. sta. and 6 miles SE. of Dalkeith, 4821 ac., pop. 1094; in vicinity of vil. is the ruined castle of Crichton, described in Marmion, the residence of Sir William Crichton, Chancellor of Scotland during the minority of James II.
