Ancient footprints

Uploader's Comments

The indentations in this layer of sedimentary rock near Duntulm were, according to palaeontologists from Edinburgh University, made about 170 million years ago by sauropods, a group of huge, long-necked dinosaurs that includes the brontosaurus and brachiosaurus. Only discovered in late 2015, these fossilised zig-zag tracks are among the very best of their kind anywhere in the world. Some of the footprints are huge, indicating the animals were massive creatures, probably primitive sauropods that grew to at least 15 metres long and weighed more than 10 tonnes.
