Dry valley below Vinovium Roman Fort

Uploader's Comments

The Roman fort of Vinovium stands on the summit of a flat topped hill overlooking the River Wear on one side and this dry valley on the other. Maybe this easily defended site was the reason why the Romans chose it. The dry valley appears to be a former course of the river and may have some connections with the last ice age.
